RSC COURTYARD THEATRE
During the Lottery funded refurbishment of the Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres in Stratford Upon Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Company needs a temporary home. Doug King provided the engineering design for the mechanical and electrical systems for a temporary auditorium. The building is designed to be deconstructed; fabricated from Corten Steel which forms both the structure and the envelope and as a naturally weathering product does not require applied finishes. The air conditioning design features the novel use of fabric ducts for speed of installaton and silent operation. On completion of the main house refurbishment project the Courtyard Theatre is designed to be dismantled and entirely removed.
